Direct from the Rocky Mountain prairies, the duo of A.W. Cardinal and Jasmine Colette (Badlands Jass), now based in British Colombia, bring for your delectation their unique brand of gypsy blues.
It's an unequal pairing with Cardinal providing gruff Waitsian vocals to eleven of the twelve swinging ragtime numbers that chart a descent into an imaginary Bukowski-esque world of strong liquor and hard living.
Colette is given space to sing the blues only on Ain't No Stranger and makes you wonder why her more elegant delivery isn't more prominent.
The absence of variety or subtlety means that the initial period charm of this record begins to pall very quickly.
