Review: 'GAME, IVOR'
'A New Start'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Folk' -  Release Date: '9th September 2016'

Our Rating:
The title is ironic in that there is no real sense that this album represents a fresh beginning. Then again, a title like 'More of the Same' might sound a bit negative.

Ivor Game is a singer songwriter from London who lives in Ashford, Middlesex.

He writes very short songs about his modest life.

He likes being at home.

Since 1996 he has released a collection every two years. There are nine more songs here - the longest of which (There Is A Distance) is a positively epic at 3 minutes 33 seconds.

Only one other song reaches the two minute mark. The title song lasts just 1 minute 17 seconds.

Shakespeare, no less, wrote that brevity is the soul of wit so who I am I to berate him for not writing anything longer.

After all, life is full of fleeting pleasures and as Mr Game kindly reminds us in the opening tune (Welcome) "things aren't always sweet".

As ever, his songs are so personal and fragile that it almost seems that listening is an invasion of his privacy.

File under: self deprecating , romantic, good-humoured, unpretentious, wistful, quirky, folk, brief.
