Review: 'Morganway'
'No Tomorrows EP'

-  Genre: 'Alt/Country'

Our Rating:
The title suggests a bleak nihilist negativity reminiscent of when Johnny Rotten sneered ‘no future’ when the Pistols shook British culture to its very foundations, but with their breezy, folk-rock Morganway’s message is altogether more positive and stands along the lines of ‘embrace the day and live for the moment’.

The Norfolk / Suffolk corner of the rural England is proving to be a spawning ground for some great bands right now, as represented by the likes of War Waves, Horse Party and Future Kings of England. Formed around a year ago, Morganway are an act that very much warrant adding to the list.

Their debut EP is assured, to say the least, brimming with confident, mature songwriting, well-worked arrangements and superb harmonies driving their easy-going melodic alt-county rock tunes. Fleetwood Mac seem to be a recurring reference point amongst critics, and for a very good reason: what’s more, Morganway stand up well in the face of this comparison, with strong songs, clear-cut choruses and their general demeanour.

The vocal track which opens the more electro ‘Hearts of Fire’ is the kind of hook that’s likely to have ad execs queuing up to feature it. And rightly so.
