Glenn Hodge describes ‘Perfect Gentleman’ as his most traditional folk work to date, although he’s still as much alt-folk or anti-folk as anything else. Musically, it’s a simple acoustic guitar ditty. Lyrically, Hodge unpicks a typical dysfunctional relationship, defined by the irritations of the humdrum – washing up, cleaning, cooking, pants on the floor and pitches the expectations and demands against the realities. Small wonder Glenn’s got Billy Bragg’s vote.
Credible, relatable and spirited in delivery, ‘Perfect Gentleman’ further establishes Hodge as a nifty observer of modern life.
