Review: 'HUT, WILLIAM'
'Hafnir Games'

-  Label: 'Apollon Records'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '4th November 2016'

Our Rating:
The cover of this album looks like an arty Christmas card. The contents are equally tasteful but are mostly subdued rather than festive.

The songs are of angels, visions, hopes, dreams and fading love all sung in an effeminate voice that is midway between Michael Stipe and Mary Chapin Carpenter.

William Hut was formerly lead singer with Norwegian band Poor Rich Kids and this is his fifth solo album and his first international release in 12 years.

None of the others have made much impact outside his home country and I doubt this will either even though the delicate soft rock is very easy on the ear.

The best track is Bliss where life is defined as a "fragile game" and in which Hut makes a gentle plea for spiritual and/or scientific guidance: "show me faith and chemistry".

Overall, the sweeping melodies and obscure lyrics are so similar to REM that the album too often seems more like a pale imitation of Automatic For The People than an individual statement.
