Ulan Bator have been knocking about for twenty years now, led by Amaury Cambuzat's exploratory song writing and charting atmospheric avant-rock territory.
Slightly less common for Bureau B, this is a vocal-led and lyrical album so it would be reasonable to focus on that. The songs are relatively short and this draws one in to the vocals and lyrics which are often 'non-native' English surreal and sometimes sung in French. Take 'Spinach Can' for example, which he apparently loses himself in. Generally his words are steadily intoned with simple harmonies and I get the impression this is someone who is comfortable with what he is doing and determined to get the message across.
'Stereolith' is a list of what we are, including "we are the universe". The arrangements are, for the most part, an interesting combination of industrial tip 'klang' and organic live drum kit, bass and guitars. Many of the tracks also tempt with the possibility of playing out over a longer time frame but stop short. I think this dude is playing with us?

'NeuNeu' is the longest track and the most obvious genre-nod with Michael Rother stylings and some sax skronk. 'No Book' could be a comment on the state of the world right now and 'Icarus' is pure waves of guitar atmospere. So, if you are looking for something wilful, determined, mature, Continentally European and even a bit dippy, trippy and new-age-y in your song writing then this could be the bunny for you.
