Our Rating:
This Chilean born artist, now based in Zurich, aims to sing out her demons (in English) on her Crowd-funded sophomore release.

She named her 2010 debut 'All About Secrets' and this seems apt since in her follow up what lies hidden is more striking than what she reveals.

For instance, despite the mix of desperation and determination behind Kill The Monsters this never spills over into but revelatory rage.

This is partly due to the fact that everything is packed so tightly into elegant arrangements that combine elements of jazz, soul and funk

Over the mainly piano led rhythms, Rocio's voice is soulful and sultry enabling her to sound both vulnerable and joyful.

Her enigmatic songs seem personal yet while the lyrics suggest an emotional intensity she never gives very much away about where the feelings of warmth, cold, sickness and desire come from. All this makes a title of one song, Oh No More Hiding, a little ironic.

Breathy ballads about Elisabeth, Amy Jade and Megan imply same sex relationships but that could be just my imagination running away with me.

Whatever their true origin, the passions that drive the songs simmer beneath the surface to give the impression of a singer who is not ready, willing or able to let us know all her secrets just yet.
