Our Rating:
These two tracks give the lie to the belief that men are not good at showing their emotions and vulnerabilities.

This split 7" came about spontaneously, making use of some downtime while these two singular artists were touring together in Scotland. A mutual friend, Ceylan Hay, sings on both songs.

Songwriter, singer, sound engineer and producer Sam Buonavolontà has been making experimental music under the alias Sam Goodwill for over a decade.

Brendon Massei, aka Viking Moses, now lives in Baltimore but was a force in the Edinburgh music scene in the early 2000s thanks to his distinctive baritone voice and the honesty of his songs.

Massei has chosen to revive an old song that he somehow never got around to recording. Clown School was written in North Carolina, while on a holiday with Laura Goetz (aka Golden Ghost), and documents some awkward fumbling towards prepubescent intimacy: "Just lend a hand and show me where it goes".

Meanwhile, Goodwill taps into some dark forces for Oxygen, a tune he says "is probably the rawest recording I've ever released". With allusions to self doubt and "the endless pursuit of unconditional love", it is a bold song about failings exposed.

What Goodwill says of this song applies just as well to Viking Moses' offering in that each touch upon "something real, flawed and worth capturing".
