Our Rating:
I actually thought I reviewed the first Peacers album a couple of years ago but it turns out I didn't. Obviously it was so good I did an imaginary review! Anyway, if you want my advice (no thanks, ed) instead of buying the live Royal Trux album get this instead.

Ok, it's not quite the same but it's in the same ball park. Rough and ready trashcan pop rock only The Peacers have a lot more to offer. They mix up their influences really well and in doing so create a unique, pleasurable and off-kilter listening experience.

I really can hear (for a change) a lot of stuff in the mix and plenty more that I don't know where it came from. Bubblegum, Beach Boys, Beatles, Byrds and Bob and entwined throughout with a kind of country. The vocals are more often than not swathed in effects that hearken to psych and there is probably a fair bit of antique kit on the go, in not very good condition.

Perhaps the best way to describe this is sike music!! 17 short and snappy songs, the first six are all completely brilliant and then things slow down with the acoustic 'Windy Car' which is just sublime. This is the best kind of band. They let you know how brilliant they are and then kind of goof off, 'cause you know...being brilliant is kind of disgusting and not very human. So you get something that is obviously very well thought out, whilst being shot through with a sense of wilful destruction.

I suppose Ty Segall would be the obvious touchstone and they come from the same camp. I am determined to find a shit song on this album but I haven't managed to yet. They are gigging in the UK for a whole week from the 14th of this month to promote the album so why not check them out live? A kaleidoscopic 9/10.
