Review: 'KILL WEST'
'Gush'

-  Label: 'Stolen Body'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '23rd June 2017'

Our Rating:
This seems like something of a departure from previous SB releases which have been in the main from the psych, jazz and weird folk end of the spectrum.

Kill West hail from Buenos Aires and this is their second long player. Having listened a little to the first I would describe it as muddy, psych and drone with a bit of shoegaze thrown in for good measure. 'Gush' is a more simplistic affair at heart. This is a well-honed, muscular, blues groove machine. To get the summary out the way early, it is a cross between Loop and ACDC.

'No Stranger' sounds like Loop's 'Breathe Into Me', oh yes! Metallic, heavy, distorted fuzz is the order of the day and delving further back in time for references, you might also pick out MC5 and The Stooges. 'Garden Of Eden' is glam stomp a la T-Rex and the titular track is a tight black Bon Scott muscle top.

'Skull & Bones Blues' slows things down (way down) and drags it out (right out). Things come back to life again with the suitably titled 'Heavy' which sticks to the formula of lead riffing off rhythm riffing and this is repeated (perhaps a little too wholesale) with 'D.U.E.L'.

Finally,'Jungle Mind' rounds the album off with a bit more of a Canned Heat vibe. It would be interesting to see these cats live to see if they stick to the script or play around a bit. For those not in the know, they will be playing Bristol Psych Fest on July 8th. That's in Bristol, squares!
