Review: 'Echotape'
'Out of Love'

-  Label: 'Believe Digital / Gentleman Recordings'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '9th March 2018'

Our Rating:
Nothing says ‘rock ‘n’ roll’ like getting support from TopMan TV. And Echotape look every inch the high street rendition of a rock band in their fashion biker jackets, distressed skinny jeans and nice-looking off-the-peg T-shirts / patterned shirts. Call me cynical, but this feels like a very manufactured take on ‘alternative’, and yes, those inverted commas translate as very necessary air quotes.

Musically, it’s not even as alternative as that. Loping rhythms propel a cinematic anthem that takes Big County as its template and draws on Doves and six million identikit bands who exist in the space that is the bracket of ‘anthemic indie’: bland and blustery, it’s all the overproduced pompous shit of the last decade distilled into three and a half minutes of self-important sonic wallpaper.
