Review: 'VENUS FLY TRAP'
'Icon'

-  Label: 'Glass Modern'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '22 June 2018'

Our Rating:
New material from The Venus Fly Trap is never a bad thing and the new album, whilst never straying too far from pre-existing templates, also manages to be quite varied.

A few tracks stand out for me. "The Genesis Of The Daleks" is funky fuzzy pop by way of David Bowie (Rebel Rebel), "Puppet" could be a Christmas country song and "In The Moonlight" has got some melodic late sixties rock thing going on replete with organ.

The first half of the album has more of a post-punk direction and "Flashback" even throws in a bit of rockabilly for good measure. There is even time for a bit of disco (Deadly Nightshade) and reggae (Return Of Sidewinder) in the middle section. Sound intriguing? Well it is. There are hints of a whole new sound for VFT on this album but which one is it?
