Our Rating:
I fell in love with Slift at this year's Bristol Psych Fest and finally their debut album has arrived! If you haven't heard of them they are a three piece from Toulouse, including two brothers and they mix psych fuzz guitars with motorik soulful drumming to excellent effect.

The album leads off with live showstopper "Heavy Road" and it's a knockout! "Something In The Mist" follows on with a bit more melody and a tight slow and fast arrangement. "Doppler Ganger" veers towards rock and "Ant Skull" is a pretty trippy affair with garbled vocals and maraca and percussion overload.

"Fearless Eye" is a single of sorts I guess. It certainly sounds like one with its annoying vocal hooks and whatnot. "Trapezohedron" is another long workout and all the better for it with the guitar working overtime in the later portion of the track. The title track sets off for some far off doom laden galaxy (gravity might be an issue?) and then flutes around in the wasteland of space.

The album finishes off with another longer track "Silent Giant" which meanders a bit but hey, this is a debut and they will do better, I feel certain of that. In the meantime we still have a pretty good album to listen to.
