Review: 'Shitkid'
'SuMmEr BrEaK'

-  Label: 'PNKSLM Recordings'
-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave'

Our Rating:
Lifted from the forthcoming second album ‘[DETENTION]’, Swedish artist Åsa Söderqvist, with the assistance of bassist Lina Molarin Ericsson is something of a step-up in terms of fidelity, marking their first proper studio work. Not that they’ve lost any of their lo-fi DIY ethos: ‘SuMmEr BrEaK’ is 2’:40” of gleefully bratty pop-flavoured punk.

It’s hooky, sassy, summery, gum-chewin’ and too-cool-for-school, with dirty guitars chopping away over a nippy bassine, and it’s all delivered with chorus that’s all about the wooh-ho-hoooah backing vocals.

You don’t come to an act like this looking for innovation or technical wizardry. Simplicity and energy are the focus here. Shitkid are about fun, rocking out and bouncing around – which is exactly what they serve up on ‘SuMmEr BrEaK’.
