Review: 'LUKES, MICHAEL'
'I Am (EP)'

-  Label: 'Seahorse Recordings'
-  Genre: 'Folk' -  Release Date: '24th May 2019'

Our Rating:
This debut EP is by a singer songwriter who was born in the UK but moved to Italy with his family and now divides his time between London and Rome.

The four highly sentimental love songs are by a young man with his head in the clouds and his heart devoted to a young woman who changed his life. “Let’s make love through the stars” he suggests in Far Away, a song that comes in two versions.

Life In A Bubble sums up the singer’s subjectivity and apparent indifference to any wider reality.

In explaining his philosophy of life, Lukes maintains that “Among people there is no difference because we all belong to the same universe”.

This simplistic and fundamentally flawed line of reasoning feeds into a set of songs that are oblivious to the sad truth that even bubbles of loving awareness have a tendency to burst.
