Review: 'MAYWOOD, DEAN'
'Dean Maywood (EP)'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Folk' -  Release Date: '7th June 2019'

Our Rating:
On the cover photo of this self titled debut EP, Dean Maywood fixes his gaze at the camera with a neutral expression. He is wearing a simple baseball cap and the hint of a beard.

This is an introduction to another youthful troubadour spirit ready to hit the road with just an acoustic guitar for company inspired, as many before him, by American heroes like Neil Young, Jackson Browne and John Prine.

Unassuming authenticity is the benchmark here with five melodic tunes which address all the usual suspects: love, loss, isolation, joy, fear, desperation and heartache.

This Irish singer songwriter is based in Donegal but a tender love song, and single, called Louisiana is the best of the bunch here.

The tunes are as simple and straightforward as the cover image yet carry enough charm and truth to make you curious to know what else he has up his sleeve.
