Review: 'Lunar Bird'
'A Walk'

-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '6th March 2020'

Our Rating:
Because time is in ever-diminishing supply in an ever-accelerating culture, I’ve found my opinion of the ‘ffo’ tag in band write-ups has changed in the past year or two, and since I can’t listen to everything, will sometimes base my decision on whether to give a release a go or not on this. Lunar Bird caught my attention largely because of the unusual span of touchstones, namely Beach House, The Cure, Mac DeMarco, Grizzly Bear, MGMT, and Julian Casablancas.

But then, Lunar Bird are unusual in their origins, too, being Italian/Welsh trio based in Cardiff who go for ‘an atmospheric mixture of ethereal Dream Pop and mesmerizing Indie Psychedelia’.
And it really is all going on with this single, with trilling washes of 80s synth rippling over a strolling bass. After an intro that delivers a promising build, it glides effortlessly into a dreamy mid-tempo tune that’s easy on the ear – but perhaps a little too much so, in that’s it’s lacking any real distinguishing features. It evokes the countless forgotten acts who hit the lower reaches of the top 40 some time between 1983 and 1985. It’s inoffensive, but not especially memorable.
