Review: 'MODERN NATURE'
'Annual'

-  Label: 'Bella Union'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '5th June 2020'

Our Rating:
Following on from the London band's 2019 debut - How to Live - this mini-album guides the listener gently away from urban clutter into quiet, harmonious pastures.

Diary notes made throughout the year are used as the template for the four main songs in the key of life interspersed with shorter instrumentals to signify transitions from one season to the next.

“The intention with the record was for it to feel like a circle" says bandleader Jack Cooper. It begins with Dawn and concludes 20 minutes later with Wynter.

Musically it has an unhurried, meditative feel poised between spiritual jazz and the expressive pop of Talk Talk. Cooper adds hushed, intimate vocals except on Harvest which features Kayla Cohen of Itasca.

Brief but blissful.
