Review: 'BINGO HARRY'
'Bingo Harry'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '30th October 2020'

Our Rating:
If you Google images of this band, you'll be invited to play Harry Potter Bingo. Do not be sidetracked into Hogwart-land and look for this band's tag-line: "Yorkshire born but oft elsewhere."

For 'elsewhere', read Manchester, England - not perhaps as exotic and mysterious as they might have wished for but a city with a rich history of class acts so who's complaining?

Bingo Harry were uncovered by Martin Bramah, the ex-Fall guitarist now of Blue Orchids, and their demo release was recorded by Bramah with another of the Fallen, Simon Ding Archer.

Despite this association, Benny Jones' fey vocals are more akin to Marc Bolan than Mark E. Smith so the band evoke the seventies prototype Glam-Rock of Tyrannosaurus Rex rather than 70s/80s Indie.

This is very much Jones' brainchild but he is ably assisted by Hannah Houghton, (bass), Russell Woods (electric guitar) and Mickey Pauline (drums).

There are heavy hints of psychedelia that can be best sampled on If They Ever Lay A Finger On Us , which the Blue Orchids have already covered, and Fractal Heart.

A cult in the making?
