Review: 'FUTUREHEADS, THE'
'DECENT DAYS AND NIGHTS'

-  Label: '679 RECORDINGS (www.thefutureheads.com)'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '26th July 2004'

Our Rating:
The (for once thoroughly deserved) furore surrounding Sunderland's THE FUTUREHEADS has reached fever pitch over the past few weeks, so you'll no doubt already be wholly familiar with "Decent Days And Nights." But then, as one of the year's best singles to date, why not be indulgent and celebrate it again, right?

Right. So at just over 2 minutes 30, "Decent Days And Nights" is The Clash's "Clash City Rockers" playing five-a-side against XTC circa "Drums & Wires" with added whoops of joy, Kafkaesque logic and a Seville barbershop roped in for good measure. Not to mention Dave Hyde's unbelieveable drumming somehow keeping it on the rails. Absolutely friggin' fantabulous, basically. And people are getting excited about seeing the Pixies when this bunch are out and about? Ludicrous.

Your reviewer's slimline promo copy doesn't run to the extras, but he's heard a couple of 'em anyway, and can recommend the bruising live version of "Piece Of Crap" (only very loosely the Neil Young one) and produer Paul Epworth's 'Bad Acid' mix of "Decent Days..." which cocks an unlikely snook at squelchy modern-day Krautrock and is truly most bizarre. Nuff said. Go get basically.
