ZERO 7'S recent Glastonbury is being referred to as something of a breakthrough event for the band formed by creative nucleus Sam Hardaker and Henry Binns, though that's no great surprise, because if you watched the coverage of Glasto through your digital button it seemed Zero 7 were just about omnipresent. Well, unless you count that horrendous footage of Tim Booth, but I think the less said about that the better.
Anyway, maybe I'm being uncharitable as Zero 7 were entirely listenable in a tasteful, Habitat-furnished kinda way where the coffee table is never far away and actually gets used for morning coffee and magazines rather than chopping lines of coke upon. Pretty much the same that can be said when taking into account the band's new (download only) single "In Time."
Because "In Time" is the very epitome of tastefully-attired, pleasant folk-blues, with the required skeletal acoustic guitar motif, slow beats and that indefinable whiff of sanitised, sub-Portishead blues all topped off with (admittedly rather lovely) soul-based, breathy vocals from Sia Furler and Sophie Barker. To say it swings by like a gentle evening breeze is something of an understatement, but I can't deny it's perfect radio fodder.

All of which sounds like being damned with faint praise, which basically it is. However, while "In Time" is possibly too easy-going for its' own good in the long run, it's surely accessible and easily digestible food for the masses who don't wanna think too hard about the darker, aesthetic side of this unsavoury music stuff.
All very tasteful, then. Which is more than can be said for the pink court shoes one of them was wearing at Glastonbury.
