Review: 'Collect Call'
'The Golden Hour'

-  Label: 'Bandcamp'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '29.11.21.'

Our Rating:
The Golden Hour is a new ep by Collect Call who are the solo project of Joseph Thorpe who is also in Academy Of The Sun and is based in Brighton.

The Ep opens with Chase the Light that has all sorts of odd percussive elements that Joseph Thorpe's sensitive indie vocals of start evoking a post argument world where the lovers start again as this sort of reminds me of Grandaddy but with an almost Ben Folds style piano part and some computer games noises.

Simple is the song on the ep that's made me stop and listen carefully every time I've played the EP so far, the lyrics are complex and this plea for forgiveness and a way to recover from a heart attack and win his partner back over a restless and inventive almost dreamscape backing.

No Amount Of Medicine is sparse and reminds me of Ram's Pocket Radio as Joseph pours out his heart in the hope that everything will be alright once more.

The Golden Hour opens with what sound like frog noises before the piano takes over and voices start whispering in the distance on this sparse barely their song of hope.

The download I was sent closes with Simple (Radio Edit) that shaves over a minute of the full version and this more condensed version is slightly more arresting for the brevity and really needs to be heard a few times to fully sink in.
