Our Rating:
Music For Underwater Supermarkets obviously takes Eno's Music For Airports as it's jumping off point and has been created for a future where we all go shopping in Underwater Supermarkets after the lice caps have melted. This album is the soundtrack created by Rich Bennett with help from Franck Picarazzi, Matt Filler, Tim Byrne and Patrick Wolff along with special guests on Le Plonguer Mike Lavalle, Spencer Cohen and Shoko Nagai.

The album opens with Foghorns that announce that the Underwater Supermarket is open for business again, the horn cuts through the sounds of rippling water.

Entrance see's the happy shopper selecting the finest of the underwater trolleys that run on special tracks around the aisles to prevent them floating away as this rather lush tune welcomes you to the seaweed and Kelp section with a cool trumpet part cutting through the gentle guitar and vibraphone backing.

New England is a short tonal shape shift through the Shrimp section. Swimming Through the Aisles takes a distinctly Philly flute Funk swim from the Butterfly Prawns to the turkey breasts on aisle 6 this is super chilled in the style of early 70's flute funk library music.

The Looking Glass takes us to the Aisle that's full of all kinds of jars, from Pickles to Passatta this takes us on a deep dive towards the Anchovies and apple sauce with a distinct tone.

Aisle 6 Abyssal Plain is obviously the sound of the clean up crew being called out as someone's smashed a couple of bottles of Olive Oil and it's gone everywhere, as the flute soundtracks the mopping up and the gentle guitar almost sounds like it's sweeping away the mess.

The Aimless Aquanaut is treading water on the snack Aisle and can't decide if they should get potato chips or Tortillas, or maybe some cheese puffs.

Le Plongeur is stuck just beyond the bleach and cleaning fluids and thankfully this time isn't covered in vomit, instead it's a pristine and clean laidback soundtrack with a few squelchy sounds as you unblock the sink once more.

Dreaming In The Lake is the inevitable reverie in the Booze Aisle as the river of wine flows gently into the bubbling morass of beer.

The album closes with the title tune The Underwater Supermarket that would be the music for the tv ad campaign, as we see the now couple of tomorrow all togged out in sea age wetsuits, ready to shop for all the groceries a modern sea age couple could need, this is cool laid back and will have you yearning to go swim round your local supermarket in no time at all.
