-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '30th August 2004'

Our Rating:
If you're a regular round these parts, you'll know by know that we're pretty partial to guitar-neck lickin' Icelandic metal varmints MINUS at W&H. Indeed, despite looking like the embodiment of Axl Rose's worst nightmare, they've released a mind-detonating album ("Halldor Laxness") and two superb singles in "Romantic Exorcism" and "The Long Face" which have ensured their profile has rocketed during the summer months.

Actually, make that THREE superb singles, as "Here Comes The Night" (admittedly only available as a download) is at least the equal of the previous two and is the very epitome of supercharged, tracer missile rifferama. Not to mention a sub-four minute skewer of the best Hard Rock (capital letters please) this reviewer has been impaled on for yonks.

It's tough to find fault with this incessant, thoroughly convincing all-out assault of a track really. All the essentials are in place, from the bulldozing guitar sounds through to Bjossi's animalistic drumming and vocalist Krummi proving he can actually SING with a vengeance. Even the way they sneak the wussy tambourines through the side door and beat them within an inch of their wretched life works brilliantly. Besides, any band who can write lyrics as scary and wholly depressing as "I feel a hole inside my body, I want to go where insects hide the silence" and ally it to a tune so bloody exhilarating is obviously doing something right.

Minus, then, are shaping up into a potentially very special band. Now, if we can prevent them dressing like Spinal Tap and stop them piddling around with pythons at their photoshoots, they'll be truly unstoppable.
