Quiet as a Mouse is the brainchild of singer/songwriter Alex Moran.
Moran was born in London, hopped around different parts of Australia during his teens and then settled in Edinburgh for 13 years where he made a debut album as QAAM in 2018.
After returning to Brisbane in 2019 he revived his project and formed a new band under the same name. The members are Bicho (lead guitar), Mark (bass guitar & vocals) and Steve (drums).
This EP contains six jangly male-orientated indie songs of everyday neurosis. The catchiness of the tunes drape a thin veil over the insecurities of Moran. He sounds like a sensitive guy keen to show his feminine side but frustrated and confused when the path of true love doesn’t run smooth.
In 100% Cotton he’s undecided whether he loves or hates a partner and is more at ease when talking to women about women's hairstyles. In Portobello beach he schmoozes “It’s cool, I like what you’ve done to your hair” and offers gentle criticism in Thieving Gypsy Blues : “Did you get your hair curled, I think it’s best straight.”
Moran is way more convincing when being nerdy than when embracing his punkier side as he does in Bad For My Health. but the tension between the two states makes for modest yet enjoyable record.
