Review: 'AUTUMN TEARS'
'Guardian of the Pale'

-  Label: 'The Circle Music'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '24th March 2023'

Our Rating:
‘Autumn Tears’ are a neoclassical act based in Billerica, Massachusetts who, in news to yours truly, have been active for decades.

For their ninth studio release, I can’t improve upon their own description of the sound as ”a unique organic fusion of classical music, cinematic themes and world music layered with diverse male and female vocals.”

‘Guardian of the Pale’ is a double album featuring over 70 musicians, a full choir and well over an hour’s worth of music. The grandiose scale constitutes a full-blown assault on the senses.

The all-encompassing pseudo-religious scope of the project can be gleaned from titles like A Requiem For Each New Day and Still The Wonder Lingers.

To be frank, I have no clue what the men and women are actually singing about. I can only say that they sound passionately engaged in some aspect of what one imagines denotes some new-agey strand of healing messages for our ailing planet.

The epic scale is, on the one hand, impressive but is also not a little overwhelming.
