Review: 'Dreyblatt, Arnold W/ Orchestra Of Excited Strings'
'Resolve'

-  Label: 'Drag City Records/Bandcamp'
-  Genre: 'Post-Rock' -  Release Date: '18.8.23.'

Our Rating:
Resolve is Arnold Dreyblatt's first new release with the Orchestra Of Excited Strings since 1982, how they contained their excitement for all that time is unclear at the moment, but this time the orchestra is composed of Oren Ambarchi, Konrad Sprenger, Joachim Schutz as they attempt to produce new dimensions in acoustic sound.

The album opens with Container that has someone hitting some strings absentmindedly as odd piano notes get hit, this then repeats and repeats for six minutes slowly evolving with the odd additional noise as ever so slowly the strings seem to seep into the frame.

Shuffle Effect could be what happens if this comes on at the wrong time, you hit shuffle to move on to something else, which would be a shame as the propulsive driving beats build a mantra like base, for the keyboards to adorn, thriving off, while at times sounding like they are trying to mimic a freight train rolling town the tracks.

Flight Path may not be the sort of noise you want to hear, as the pilot is selecting the right Flight Path for a tricky landing in bad weather, as it sounds a touch panicked, super steady drums hold everything down, strings and keyboards interject, like the wheels won't come down properly, or will they, as you chant a mantra for a safe landing, this music is perfect for, as repetition is at the core.

The album closes with Auditoria the longest piece on the album, the 17 minutes opus opens with some cello drones slowly floating through the speakers, journeying out to space, this is the piece that most lives up to the influences sited in the press release of Tony Conrad and La Monte Young as tonal shifts create space for the elongated phrases warping your mind. Eventually things open out with shimmering keyboard sounds set against slow careful beats.
