'Confirmed Bachelor'

-  Label: 'Upset The Rhythm'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '15.9.23.'-  Catalogue No: 'UTR 159'

Our Rating:
Confirmed Bachelor is the latest album from Oakland based Queercore artist Brontez Purnell who has previously been part of The Young Lovers and Gravy Train as well as writing the books 100 boyfriends and Since I Laid My Burden Down. The album was produced by Vice Cooler with the rest of the band including Sean Teves, Kevin Preston, Aaron Minton and Laena Myers-Ionita.

The album opens with the low-fi indie pop of Bachelors Theme that isn't flogging any tomato soup, or making any promises to pray at the church of Cliff Richard, but urges you to life the life you want too.

Hey Boy allows Brontez to pour out his hearts desire for his next conquest, he just wants that Boy to listen to him, falling into his arms, as he's used all the reverb he can to attract the best indie kids he can.

Sky Opens Up has a frantic indie pop sound in a Lunchbox vein as he celebrates the falling of rain changing the mood, as everything happens so fast.

That Boy Is A Dead Cruiser reminds me of that early 80's film about the cruising scene, that had some very dark endings, in the brief encounter scenes in parks and cottages, oh how he wishes that boy was still alive.

Hellish Banger is not about the latest Charlie XCX single, but for a hook up that went in a different direction to what Brontez expected it too, as he moans and the guitars pour with emotional pain.

Bragging Party has an autotuned intro into this song for all the people he's met, that only brag about how wonderful they are, before they turn out to be sacks of shit, as Brontez explores how this makes him feel.

Boy With The Butterfly Wings is in praise of one of those guys who wears angel like Butterfly Wings to help entice and perplex, Brontez has been totally suckered into his world.

Winner Takes Nothing is super speedy and has no regrets for being in situations where you win what you want, but still leave empty handed, as another hook up has concluded almost as speedily as this song does.

Rude Life isn't about being a rude boy, more about being as free and easy with your charms and love as you can get away with, the joys of never wanting to live a straight normal existence, as the drums pound away he's about to go looking for his next conquest.

No Cigarettes: Stay Monkey is about still having the nicotine monkey on your back and how much you crave them, as soon as your last pack is empty, with the arguments over claims your partner has finally quit, as the cacophonous indie guitar squalls, accompany all the urges and rages at the lack of coffin nails within easy reach of this re-worked Julie Ruin song.

Shaboolee is a lovelorn mess of emotions for someone who's not returning the love, while coming across like a cross between The Shirelles and Sebadoah as Brontez pleads that you sing Ah Ah Shaboolee to him.

The album closes with Kiss Me, go on give in to all his pleading and plant a huge smacker on his lips, make his dreams come true in the twilight of his dreams.
