This long-haired Texas-based rocker looks and sounds like a throwback.
Israel Nash was born and raised in small-town Missouri and brought up on a wholesome diet of blue collar rock. “Listening to those heartland rock albums got me thinking about my own heartland story,” explains Nash.
“Some roads go on forever, some roads end” he sings on Roman Candle and it doesn’t really get any more profound than this.
This album is the perfect companion to a long drive down lost or found highways where all you really need is a sound built around towering guitars and strident synthesizers.
The feel good factor is foregrounded as an antidote to negativity: “We all need that feeling of communal catharsis.” Nash Says.

This affirmative philosophy stands even when singing of a shell-shocked Vietnam vet in Lost in America or drug abuse and poverty in Shadowland.
The music may be belong to another time and place but it provides well-intentioned escapism with a generous dose of rousing choruses to sing along to.
