Our Rating:
Shadows Of the Night is the third album by Pete Kosanovitch who plays all the instruments on this album recorded in his home studio using vintage equipment.

The album opens with Only Dreaming that is built around some very 60's style organ and strummed guitar as well as heavy upfront mouth organ, as all the reason you've diverted yourself and disappeared into your dream life rather than facing reality are made clear.

Love Is Rare takes the heavy strummed acoustic guitar, in a Masters Of War style, adds in tambourine and heartfelt vocals, that have a bit of a folk madrigal feel, that allows this song to float between a traditional folk song and a 60's Greenwich village style folk song perfectly.

They Are For Real seems to update the early Dylan feel, with an electric guitar that comes in and out, helping the song to soar, as Pete feels all the pain of a relationship that's hit the rocks due to a lack of trust, as Pete wonders how that trust might be built.

Shadows Of The Night appears to be named after a classic 60's garage band, while being more freak folk with an Incredible String Band skewed look at life, as the plangent acoustic guitar sounds like it's being strummed in a darkened room at 2 am.

Do Yourself A Favour and join in clapping along to the mouth organ, stamp your feet if you need to, as this sounds like a massive sing along crowd pleaser, it's looking at how to be more positive.

My Mothers Natures Son is another pre-electric Dylanesque song full of matrilineal love.

Walking Down The Line takes us into the dark despair of Walking That Line on your way to your final judgement, as spectral guitar tries to save you from your ultimate fate.

Lay Down Next To Me has the feel of an early 70's bucolic folk love song, that revolves around a delightful guitar figure, for all the pleading and supplication to unfurl over, hopefully she'll get the message and come and join you.

Games We Play is the aftermath of her lying next to you, without letting you know who else she might be lying next too, when she's not with you, the pain of betrayal, as you move on to pastures new, are ensnared within the resonant strummed acoustic.

Look Up To The Sky has some sparse piano for the guitar to play with as this sad tale unfolds.

The album closes with Blessing In Disguise one more love sick acoustic folk song, for the lover that has gone on her merry way, as Pete tries to make out that he hasn't been hurt this time, he is glad she'll never get to hear this tribute to her departing the scene.
