Beautiful Chaos is the latest single from Brussels based Goth band Lovelorn Dolls who are a duo of Kristell Lowagie and Bernard Daubresse recorded this song in Brussels and Rome, the single comes with 5 additional remixes. I am also adding here the bands follow up single Happy Valentine that is the 10th anniversary re-issue of an earlier single, this time around it's raising money for CVFE (Collective against Family Violence and Exclusion), a Belgian association combating domestic violence.
The first of the 6 versions of the song on this ep is a light goth rock anthem for anyone struggling to understand the Beautiful Chaos of life in the 21st century. The Audio Pyre remix adds a gauzy yet glitchy layer or two to the song giving it more of a late-night dancefloor feel.
The Restriction 9 remix of Beautiful Chaos has a far more four to the floor dance beat to it. While the Absynthe Of Faith remix has a gauzy almost Depeche Mode style club beat with heavy percussion with floating synths making this the most engaging of the remixes.
The Breath Of Life re-mix slows things down and strips the song down to the vocal core with far less adornment and hardly any drums, making this feel rather more stark. The final mix is the Antidote For Annie re-mix that adds in strings, a thudding beat with a solitary piano line making this sound like a stripped back Within Temptation tune.
The re-issue of Happy Valentine has dark nasty lyrics about an awful Valentines Day with a violent abusive lover who beats the crap out of you while holding a bouquet in his hands, the sick puppy that he is, this marries stark imagery to a Delain meets Lacuna Coil style goth rock backing to striking effect.
