Ceiling Tiles is the first single from Sun Atoms second album that's due out in the summer, the group featuring Peter Holmstrom from the Dandy Warhols alongside Jsun Atoms, Mars de Ponte, June Kang, Eric Rubalcava and Derek Spencer Longoria-Gomez the single has been mixed by Jagz Kooner. The band are based in Portland Oregon and will be on tour in the US in March and April.
The a-side of this 7" single Is Ceiling Tiles I'd guess those sort of polystyrene tiles, that are stained yellow with nicotine, needing to be replaced since everyone stopped smoking indoors, as the gauzy synth pop, with droll vocals want to teach us how to dance around security guards to help realign the stars. The clap track hits in as you lean back to stare at those tiles wondering how long they've been up on that ceiling, while being tempted to take pot shots at them to make sure they get replaced soon, before you lose your mind certainly.
The B-side is a shimmering dream pop cover of Leonard Cohen's Tower Of Song (In The Key Of JAMC) the vocals try to be as deadpan as laughing Lens, but have more warmth in them, as the spaced out psyche dreamy backing gets into a total groove to move this magnificent much covered song along, as they guitars keep threatening to be glued to the amps to get enough feedback and distortion, the rhythm section never loses the main riff making it easy to get lost in this take on a classic we all need to own lots of versions of.
