Our Rating:
Time Is Glass is the latest album from Six Organs Of Admittance, the first since Ben Chasny returned home to Humboldt County after 20 years spent wandering in the wilderness of the global musical community.

The album opens with chiming acoustic guitars on The Mission the choral vocals implore us to stay close. This song has echoes of the sparsest Chris Bell songs.

Hephaestus has deep ambient troughs sculpting the god like sounds of the carpenter's trade, a distillation of his battles with Zeus, the father who allegedly hated him.

Slip Away into the melancholy wastes of the post pandemic world, minimal acoustic guitar adorns the careworn vocals.

Pilar is a Spanish guitar rumination, flexing of the fingers spreading out the notes imbue us with feelings of support.

Theophany Song a slow strummed vision of the god you'd like to appear and save us all from the pitiless times we live in.

My Familiar feels like it should be strummed and sung in a chapel, with the haunting angelic vocals feeling both familiar and comforting, no matter that Ben sings about burning the whole town down.

Spinning In A River finds Ben with hardly the time to say goodbye, sad reflections on a parting that may be temporary, but could be permanent, when the stabs of heavy electric guitar come in it's a real shock, breaking the chilled out spell, adding power, as if they have got caught in an unexpected whirlpool.

Summer's Last Rays is a Gabor Szabo style acoustic guitar, new age concerto to the fading of the later Summer sun, very relaxing, chilled you should have a Sundowner close by while listening to this ever more involving evolving ambience.

New Year's Song is another very Chris Bell style reflective ballad, the picking is evocative of a slowly clearing head, awakening to a new dawn, hopes for another spin around the sun, hope it will be a pain free year.
