Our Rating:
Anton Barbeau is back not with one album, but with two, I reviewed Glitch Wizard first and now Dig The Light second, Dig The Light was recorded at Dark Mystery Temple or the basement of his parents' home, while Anton was caring for his dad in his final days on earth. He recorded the album with help from Dave Gregory, Barry "The Fish" Melton and The Moore Brothers.

The album opens with Moondust Hallelujah replete with church organ and final supplications for his recently departed dad.

Dogstar kicks into gear, like he is on his way with his girl to a hot night out at the Dogstar in Brixton, probably as an after show party, once he's played at The Windmill again, of course it could be about totally different things, like dreams of actual Dogstars seen while gazing at space to avoid everything happening here on earth.

Cosmic Mind Awaken is seeking higher realms of consciousness, the ability to continue the conversations with those no longer with us, can he find a way to bring about his ideas for Cosmic Mind Awaken bringing the peace and clarity that eases all the pain.

The title track Dig The Light is quite gently effective Psychedelic pop song to drink your tea too, so I better pour the apple and hibiscus tea into my mug and join in, digging the light.

Incantation feels like final prayers for the dearly departing, giving thanks for all you've done for your family, despite what any enemies might have thought, woozy synths helping the slow drift towards oblivion, chant along with Anton in a wondrous hazy ending.

Come The Hummingbird be Anton's dad's spirit bird, squad leader on that final flight, deep droning bass, death march drumming aided by the sugar and caffeine, she takes flight, Anton is ready to follow you wherever you're headed.

Mushroom Madness has descended once more, I hope I am not stuck in my typical trip and destination, Anton is sitting in a park when things go all weird and colourful, this will help take you right out there beyond your normal life, to places suggested by that book on the table, well the closest one to me currently is Symposium And The Death Of Socrates who may claim "young people follow me of their own free will," well they should be following Anton not that Plato fellow..

All My Dreams are discussed over slow strummed acoustic guitar, seeking revelations through dream interpretation, for those events in the merry month of May, while the rooster crows once more allowing Anton to love you fully.

The mushrooms have really kicked in, just in time for I Saw Syd and he didn't hiss at all, just shuffled off, while we all marvel at how his light still shines so bright. Life Gives You Lemons asks why sometimes all your left with is that handful of lemons, despite you're not wanting them, feeling like your down to your basic possessions a keyboard and guitar, a few clothes the minstrels life beckons unless you make some lemon wine.

High On A Mountain Hill sitting digging the vibes, enjoying the moment of space and enlightenment you attain being even higher than that mountain top, they may never come back down, avoiding the pain they left behind.

Mahogany Jam Jar is stuck in Swindon with the psychedelic blues again, Wiltshire nights chilling your mind. The album closes with Hallelujah Sun this sparse hymnal with I guess 12 string guitar is a journey to the place where you are left to moulder.
