Hagridden is the latest album by Scottish sisters Bratakus who are here to destroy us with hardcore raging punk from Tomintoul, they are Breagha Cuinn and Onnagh Cuinn, the album was produced by Tommy Duffin who also guests as live drummer on the album, the band usually use drum machines.
The album bursts out of the speakers with Final Girls that rages and blasts at us while making clear they will not be your Final Girls and won't follow your rules, they are independent and ready to rule the roost, so get the hell out the way and let them rip.
Turnstile seems an old-fashioned thing to sing about, most turnstiles having been replaced, but the brutal guitars and drums just fry at that liar who they can never believe a word from, while they rage like a slimmed down Maid Of Ace.
Real Men Eat Men which means I am not a real man in their eyes, I haven't eaten meat in nearly 40 years, this is almost the polar opposite of The Jazz Butchers real men, they scream at the object of their disgust.
Hypocritical is the one trait they really hate in all the lying idiots they have ever met, they see right through your lies and Hypocritical behaviour, they totally have your number and will wipe the floor with you and all your nonsense.
Worth It they ask is it really Worth it, well buying this album certainly is, if you like super fresh angry as all hell riot punk. They hate all the ways modern life revolves around various levels of exploitation.
Tokened is a screed against being treated as a token to make up the numbers, they don't want to be on a pedestal or treated like some beauty queen, they want equality for everything they do, a rallying cry against the current insanity, with super speedy guitars clattering into your brain, getting the message across.
Tonight is full throated scream of agony and pain at the lack of progress they witness day by day, this slows things down a touch and almost feels like the chorus is sing along anthemic fun.
Behave go on learn so manners and treat everyone you meet properly, never allow yourself to be put down or mistreated. Drowning is that feeling that everything is going in the wrong direction and we need a revolution to turn the ship around, if that's even possible.
The album closes with Cut Us sounding like they are taunting some muppet with a knife, the rage and pain they feel can only be alleviated with that release of blood, I hope they are not self-harming and no one tries to cut them down to size.
