Little is known about Frank Rabeyrolles even though he’s quite a prolific artist. This is his tenth album and he has also released recordings under the names Double U and Franklin.
On his latest record there’s a Yo La Tengo sense of quiet calm which seduces with its breezy charm.
His voice is gentle and warm. He’s French but sings in accent-free English.
The arrangements lend the tunes a hazy, dream-like quality. Think Pink Floyd’s ‘Obscured By Cloud’.
This is identifiably folk but with an ambient edge as evidenced by the short instrumentals Birds Aren’t Changing and Slow Cricket.
”Be kind to yourself” is a message on the opening track - Take A Paper - and this is advice he seems to be putting into practice in this fine collection.
