Collaboration is the latest compilation album from Hull based Warren Records, taking some of the label's roster of artists and encouraging them to collaborate with each other to brilliant effect. The artists were given one day to meet and come up with an idea and one day to record the song or songs. The time restrictions helped everyone focus and channel their energies.
The first collaboration on the album is You've Got Male by Wench! X Jodie Langford that is great Riot Grrrl, angry, shouty rude punk, taking aim at modern culture and the manosphere, how it commodifies everyone, till you are so confused you can't figure out why tampons distress you so much.
Bite The Hand That Bleeds by Chiedu Oraku x Dead In Blue mixes black Yorkshire rap, with slightly prog indie, with dark distain for boundaries, where they rap about being out of place most of the time, turning it from a weakness into a secret power, with soaring guitars truly going stratospheric, against a deep bassline. Idea 1 by Trouser Dress X Bombed Buildings has a very ethereal opening, with slow synth tones throughout.
Midas Angelo is the first of two songs by Minas Altar X Steph Halsey this one has a slightly askew medieval folk pop feel, with bells ringing, harps playing, this has a beautifully relaxed feel to this evocation of living a glorious angelic existence. Let Her Burn keeps the classical folk edge while they expand on why she is the Midas Angel and the reasons they may have, to let the witch burn, for using art to promote the divine, austere Christian bullies destroying culture while the percussion rises and falls.
Idea 2 by Trouser Dress X Bombed Building is slow ruminative riff and odd notes giving this a laid-back air. Main Character Explicit by Bug Facer X Marx is an angry rap, with deep whale noise atmospherics and scrawny guitar squiggles, that could be re-worked into more of a Beatnigs style industrial mind melter, that would be totally explosive live.
Take The World is the first of two more songs by Trouser Dress X Bombed Buildings that keeps asking who Takes The World and makes those decisions, a truly important question in 2026 with all the mania going down, laid back percussive vibes at odds with the monumental nature of those very things that happen, when the wrong people are in charge. Hull Fair is just over a minute of funfair sounds reworked into a new slightly disturbing tune that would work on a horror movie.
The album closes with the clean version of You Got Male by Jodie Langford X Wench! That just sounds anthemic in its dismay, at all the things stupid men say, when mansplaining to women things they need to STFU about. So lets all punch the air and join in making idiot blokes finally understand women far better than they do.
