What began as a joke and a dare morphed magically into an intriguing four-track EP featuring modern interpretations of medieval music.
It teams together the talents from Boston: singer Tanya Donelly—co-founder of Belly, Throwing Muses, andThe Breeders and guitarist Chris Brokaw one time drummer with Codeine, member of Come and long-time collaborator with Thurston Moore.
The result is otherworldly and ethereal in a This Mortal Coil kind of way, tapping into a quiet spiritual shoegaze energy rather than advocating any radical religious doctrine.
The lyrics sung in Latin sound curiously Japanese in parts. Brokaw comments ”I felt like we immediately came upon a new language, sound, dialect.
Recorded at Woolly Mammoth Sound in Waltham MA during Spring 2025, the combination of shimmering guitars and luminous voice is a winning formula.
With a playing time of just over 21 minutes it is tailor-made for an anti-noise meditative reset.
