An open letter to Bjork.....

Dear Bjork,

Most of us (this writer included) are all for pushing musical boundaries and taking chances. That's all fine and laudable, but there are limits, and with "Triumph Of The Heart" you're overstretching the mark.

I mean, that last album "Medulla" was bad enough (for the uninitiated - or perhaps that should read ' for the blissfully unaware' - it was a record made up virtually entirely of vocal timbres and eschewed all but the merest hints of instruments, doing away with most of the tunes in the process as well), but we were prepared to forgive that. You're an artist: you have to get these things out of your system. Yes, we can endure that.

But why do you persist trying to release tracks from said album as singles? There are NO recognisable singles on "Medulla"! Have sense girl! You may well want to release this in a typically 'mischievous' sleeve featuring you, erm, kissing a dog, but come on: we all know even WITH the presence of LFO's Mark Bell and the wel-respected Mark 'Spike' Stent at the mixing stage, that this one is pure flatulence, and that however you try to dress this stuff up, it still comes on like the Empress's new nick-nacks.

And must you kick us when we're down? You really must hate us these days, mustn't you? Why else would you release a REMIXED version of another album 'highlight' "Desired Constellation" that sounds like a bullfrog with trapped wind. Bjork: you used to be full of fun and mischief AND releasing cool records to go along with it. How did you mislay the plot so terminally?

Well, it's beyond me, anyway.   "Instruments are SO over," you say, smugly, announcing the arrival of "Medulla" and this excuse for a single. Fair enough. I'd also wager that your commercial career and most of your credibility will be SO over if you keep taking the piss like this.

"Triumph Of A Heart"? The only triumph here is alienation of your fanbase, as I hear it. There's no excuse for this artsy cack, whoever you may think you are and we'll not stand for it indefinitely.

Signed.......one very disgruntled reviews editor.
