With ‘Peaches’ Sheffield’s PINK GREASE decide to skip the No Wave/Post Punk revival train and instead jump the tracks and hop back to the era of Glam but forget to pick up a tune along the way, settling instead for the hair styles and mannerisms. There’s also something of DENIM in the revisionism but without Lawrence’s wit, ear for melody or lyrical mastery.
The point of it all is also scuppered by the decision to include two remixes that seem to dilute what was already a weak tonic for the soul. ‘Peach Grease’ adds some fever free disco while the ‘Riton Re-Rub’ remix goes all tacky synth circa 1982, like Depeche Mode slumming it with Billy Idol on a cheap away day ticket.
Not vital.
