Review: 'LERCHE, SONDRA/ ENTRANCE'
'Brighton, Komedia, 3rd March 2005'

-  Genre: 'Pop'

Our Rating:
Stumbling onto stage is everyone’s favourite support act, bluesman Entrance*. Somewhere from within his overgrown mess of beard and frizzled brown hair emerges a sporadic vocal. Think the male equivalent to Joanna Newsom: fantastic instrumentalist, but not one for the purists.

By contrast, Mr Lerche’s crystal clear vocals and impeccable wit seem a world away. His jazzy ‘comping’ guitar style harks back to the likes of Jo Pass, whilst his set reveals such gems as ‘Living Lounge’ and ‘Dead Passengers’. Splendid pop songs in the young Norwegian’s hands, let’s hope he’s not forced to compromise.

* Not to be confused with early 90s Mancunian dance act, N: Trance, who were shit.
