This is the 45th anniversary re-issue of Conal by Krautrock legend Conrad Schnitzler that was originally released by Norwegian label Uniton in 1981 in a limited edition of 4000 copies. The album was believed to be recorded at Peter Baumann's Paragon Studio.
The A-side is N1 that opens with some squelchy pulsar sounds, with phasing shifts and some tubular bells behind the slow shifting synth sounds, some almost Chinese elements are then added to the rather glacial sounds. Eventually some space sci-fi noises are added like we are thinking of getting up to warp speed. The keyboard pattern becomes more upfront and seems like it is trying to oust the phaser sounds that keep fighting against it.
The B-side is N2 opens with what sounds like a manipulated siren sound slowed down and processed, with slow trembling synth, before the jets seem to fly across the speakers, in the doomy landscape being conjured up. Swooshing sounds and slow footsteps play against the siren sounds that come and go, slowly through a wind tunnel the alarms have been set off again. An intricate synth part emerges through the swooshing phaser alarm sounds, that could almost be a normal song structure, but not for long. Skittery keyboard shifts move over the slow doomy bass notes like he is sound tracking a trip in search of the Soup Dragon's lair.
