Review: 'MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE'
'HELENA'

-  Label: 'REPRISE'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '23rd May 2005'

Our Rating:
Uh oh! Here's our old 'friend' Emo sticking its' ugly phisog over the parapet again. And usually, that means your reviewer wants to give it a bloody good smack with his trusty collapsible mallet.

Predictably, "Helena" fails to be an exception to this rule, too. It's of the overwrought, Jimmy Eat World-frighten-Muse variety, utterly generically-adherent and purely serves to remind that the only Emo-related outfit your reviewer has heard worth their salt are the All-American Rejects.

Actually, if that wasn't bad enough in itself, why is that we always have to be confronted by boast-worthy statistics with these bands? Similar releases by the likes of Jimmy Eat World, Less Than Jake and Brand New have also come with details of 'gold-selling', "MTV-friendly' career curves, and My Chemical Romance are clearly going down the same road. "Helena" is culled from parent album "Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge", which has apparently sold half a million "in the US alone." Well, whoop-de-doo for you. Like I give a shit or something.

According to frontman Gerard Way, MCR are "unstoppable, undefeatable, dangerous. You can't ignore us anymore." Maybe not in the marketplace, old son, but in my head I knock you down with a feather. Now bugger off and haunt someone else for a while.
