Review: 'Ambulance LTD'
'Primitive (The Way I Treat You)'

-  Label: 'TVT'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '13th June 2005'

Our Rating:
Attracting more than passing interest from the Good (Lou Read) the Bands (REM, Dears) and the Ugly (Killers, Bravery), Ambulance LTD had nonetheless taken a while to convince me, and possibly others who go out of their way to avoid hype. But not so the producers of The O.C. whose gilded touch influences even the most jaded i-pod bearing radio executive. And thank God if that means this get’s the rotations and play-listing it deserves.

From it’s snake-hipped white-boy funk guitar and jaunty lo-fi honky-tonk intro to its climactic pounding woosey coda, Ambulance el –tee-dee have fashioned a master-piece in current offering Primitive.   This isn’t a scenesters nugget, it’s an indie-rock diamond. You see those stars above? I mean every one of them.

As with all New York’s best offerings (Velvet Underground, Talking Heads) Primitive effortlessly stuffs swagger and cool into pop sensibilities and then stuffs the self-same pop-sensibilities into white collar, art rock.   Everybody wins.
