Review: 'NOISE A NOISE'
'LOOKING AHEAD EP'

-  Label: 'SELF RELEASED'
-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: '2004'

Our Rating:
Anglophile power-pop trio NOISE A NOISE bring a welcome drop of California sun on their 4-track ‘Looking Ahead’ EP. Comprising of Jason Jeffrey on drums, Bruno Pitelli on bass guitar and songwriter Alex Shahverdiloo on guitar/vocals this American band have absorbed some classic British guitar bands but have still managed to make their own music sound new and fresh.

The most obvious starting point is ‘I Should Coco’ era Supergrass as NOISE A NOISE share the same ability to marry high tempo perky punk-pop with a deceptively refined ear for a good tune. Their tight and impassioned delivery also harks back to 60’s guitar-based R ‘n’ B/Mod as well as to the restless spikiness of The Buzzcocks. Theirs is a sweet concoction that seems to have benefited from ripening in the West Coast location.

Already sounding like they have the potential to be a great singles band it’s hard to choose between any of the four tracks NOISE A NOISE offer. If I have to pick a favourite it would be second track ‘Marble’ that contains some great major/minor chord shifts of which Messieurs Difford and Tilbrook would be proud.
