Hey Harrry is Waterpistol’s debut EP, and it comes with support from BBC Horizons and Art Council Wales’ 2026 Launchpad Fund.
According to their bio, ‘The six-piece blend the swagger of golden-age rock ’n’ roll with hazy psychedelic pop sensibilities, carving out a sound shaped by some of their biggest influences in The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Shack and The La’s’.
Thankfully, this four-tracker is better than the pitch, although this obviously depends on where you sit with those influences for a start. The title track’s up first, and brings loping drums and layer upon layer of reverb.
‘Felin’ features the line ‘you can play the funky music, whiteboy / things will never stay the same’ sung with a summery vibe that’s janglesome indie with gentle hints of Stereolab in its sunny retroness. ‘Still a Little Bit Stoned’ delivers on its title, and while it’s a nice, mellow, psych-tinged tune, it’s by far the weakest track on the EP. Perhaps they should have left it a bit longer for the effects to wear off.

Closer ‘She Flies’ is a bold take on 60s psych pop which also draws in the 90s indie which revisited that style. It’s not innovative, but is big on energy, and they have some tunes.
