Nice N' Rough is the third album by Rock & Roll colossus Split Dogs who are one of the hardest touring and working bands currently around, if you haven't seen them live yet, you really have missed out, an incendiary live act that has been ruthlessly honed on the road, this album shows just how tight and hard edged they have become. Split Dogs are Harry and Mil Martinez, Suez Boyle and Chris Hugall who recorded at The Station House in Leeds with Jonah Falco producing and engineered by James Atkinson.
Be Somebody comes raging out of the speakers like a rough and ready Dr Feelgood, fronted by gravel toned garage queen Harry Martinez, they make clear you need more time, but need to put the world to rights, lean mean and honed, Mil's guitar rages throughout to the Neanderthal rhythmic freight train Suez and Chris whip up.
Born Too Loose has a steamrolling chugging hurricane riff, Harry delivering their message that they were indeed Born To Loose like a street walking cheetah, that knows how to ram another anthem into all our heads.
Breaker will take you to the top, in a whirlwind blitz of drums and guitars, the intent to leave everyone dripping with sweat, totally invigorated by Split Dogs destroying their favourite rock club, they will hit and run and leave you begging for more.
Get The Look let them tattoo you and then dress you up and show them the hurt, getting on with rocking your socks off, to another immense riff and roll classic garage punk monster hook.
Speed Demon rampages across the speakers with the harmonica motoring into your mind, while Harry is the Speed Demon of your dreams and nightmares, breaking hearts, screaming across the world with a Suzy Quatro like scream.
Leave it Alone geezer, just shut it, don't say another word, before you get what's coming to you, on this brutally tight and taut bruiser, making plain that you better not mess with Split Dogs if you know what's good for you.
Shake Sum Action is a full on shake your money maker, rock and roll blitz for all the lies you've told, while getting into the kind of state where you can't control these shakes, they just needs one pill to get straight.
Rock N Roll Business is foot stomping Slade meets the Feelgood's rager, for all the rip offs and drugs deals of leading a full on Rock & Roll lifestyle, how do you get by in the cut throat world of being a touring band on a mission to take over the world.
Mamma Said to play the waiting game and stop driving her insane, while crushing us with another monster riff to hit the floor with, another live classic full of the pains of trying to do to much and surviving the knockbacks.
Suffer is full of Suez pummel you into submission bass, allowing Harry to surrender to their ghosts, letting us in on all the things that made them Suffer growing up, to that boogie till you drop guitar careening around the room.
I Wanna will leave you in no doubt as to what Split Dogs want and need, while being totally in your face racing towards the end of the relationship, they had to let you go.
Dirty Denim is a proper biker rock anthem, making clear you need to put up or shut up, don't expect to get fed if you don't bring in your fair share, don't just spout rubbish at them, do your bit and they will too, they don’t do half measures.
The album closes with Power Out a raging, full on pell-mell rama-lama rock and roll choon for someone who is on a space dust mission, about to hit a brick wall where the Power Out will calm things down, the raging storm might pass, like they know the fuel crisis will lead to us all sitting in the dark once more.
