London five-piece NARCO follow up their debut single ‘Evil Brother’ and last month’s primer album ‘Control Of The Stereo’ with ‘Worth It’.
The marriage of glam-rock drumming and funk rooted bass-lines is a winner as is the nod to Berlin era Iggy Pop. Oh and the scuzzy 60’s R ‘n’ B helps. I’m also reminded of the B52s at their most ‘punk’ with the ‘one string’ guitar playing and the overall driving stomp: all in all a winning combination. ‘Jimmy2Ks’ opens like ‘Low’ era Bowie (an upbeat cross between ‘Sound and Vision’ and ‘Always Crashing In The Same Car’) but wears its 60’s R ‘n’ B more clearly: like Clinic on the one day they decide to embrace pop and go for an all-out hit record.
Still a funky mother, mind and well worth the fuss that’s brewing.
