Hailing from Austin, Texas and presumably named after the opening track of the ground-breaking Eno/Byrne collaboration ‘My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts’, AMERICA IS WAITING are an abrasive and politically charged combo who’ve supported Muse and Hell Is For Heroes. Their debut album ‘In The Lines’ is released on August Spies Collective, a new offshoot of Captains of Industry (home to HIFH, Kinesis and We Will Be Pilots)
Aesthetically a punk band their noise can be traced back as far as Crass as well as early Nirvana. Throw in some early Jane’s Addiction, RATM and even a bit of The Cure then I think we’ve covered the sound. Overall this mini album is a pretty grim musical affair with little respite from the discordant onslaught and the shouted/screamed vocals. Usually this would be a cause for concern, and there are times when the finger hovers over the eject button, but somehow AMERICA IS WAITING manage to keep things just on the right side of interesting, particularly on the punk/jazz work-out of last track ‘Intravenous Genius’.

Mind you if ‘In The Lines’ was a film it’s definitely not a date movie.
