Adroit, pigeonhole-dodging New York-based singer/ songwriter JOSEPH ARTHUR has been gaining plaudits akin to albums like Beck's "Odelay" and Jeff Buckley's seminal "Grace" for his recent "Our Shadows Will Remain", and although I'm told "Even Tho" isn't entirely representative of his album per se, it's still a bloody awesome introduction to a major talent simmering on the stove.
Because, while "Even Tho" is superficially beaty, poppy and immediate, it also manages to sound equally otherworldly and spiritual along the way. Admittedly, it helps that Arthur's voice is a ghostly angelic shiver of a thing, but when it caresses a song so gracious, uplifting and redemptive...well, you just know you're hearing something special without the need to ask too many further questions.
As for me, I'm going to delve back into its' parent album and discover its' delights more fully. Excuse me for a while.
